John,

The answer to your question is - it depends.

When you installed DS:LoA, it should have also installed a shortcut to
launch the original DS in your Legends of Aranna program group. If you
launch the original DS from that shortcut with the DS:LoA CD#1 in your CD
rom drive, you should be able to connect as either host or client through an
INTERNET match to the system without the LoA expansion installed.

If you launch the game from the LoA shortcut in your Legends of Aranna
program group, the multiplayer game will look for other LoA games (launched
as DSLOA.exe) and not see any original DS games(launched as
DungeonSiege.exe), even if you have the multiplayer map set to an original
DS map.
