Re: Hyperlink Grayed Out - One more Clue

I did what you said and it would immediately highlight the whole page as the
hyperlink text. It started with a Top of Page link. Since I wasn't using
it, I took it out and it is now working fine.

Thanks for you help,
Norm

I just tried it on a different page on my website and it works correctly.
It is only on my home page that this problem exists.

I guess I did not explain this too well.

I am trying to create a link to another page on my website. (Example:
xyz.pdf)

From what I have read, I can type the text that I want to make a link.
(Ex: Go to xyz.pdf)

Then I would highlight that text, and click on the hyperlink icon. and
select the target page for the link.

Okay. I just typed Go to xyz.pdf, highlighted this text, clicked the
hyperlink icon on the toolbar above. I get the "insert hyperlink" dialog
box, then can choose "target", etc.

All this does is put in the "text to display" i.e. xyz.pdf at the top of
this dialog box. The "Address" area at the bottom is blank.

So, you mean that the OK button is grayed out? So is mine.

In the "Address" area at the bottom, you need to type in the page to link
to. e.g. abc.htm

I read what you have written below and I don't quite get the part about
text deleting.

Your problem is...you need to provide the page to link to. Be sure to
use the extension: .htm

However, as soon as I highlight the text, my hyperlink icon grays out.

The alternative that I have read is to click the hyperlink icon and then
enter the text to display and the target page. When I do this, the
entire page highlights and when type in the text to display all of the
other text on the page is deleted.

According to FP Help, this is suppose to be very easy, and they explain
both ways (highlight text or create the text from the icon), so I don't
understand why it doesn't work. The only way that I can create links is
to write the HTML code.

Thanks for your help,
Norm

Why is this not working correctly?

Thanks, Norm

Can you please explain more?

I don't understand how you are creating your hyperlink. Are you using
the icon on the toolbar? If so, you get a dialog box to type in the
link at the bottom of it.

Why would you be highlighting the text? I don't understand this.

Selects the whole page?

You can click "target frame" "new window" in that same dialog box to
have the linked page appear without leaving your site.

Unless there are identical links that conflict in some way.

Try right click on home page. Key the link (e.g. xyz.htm). Then key the
text you want to see in the "Insert Link" dialog box.
