JPG or JPEG extension should not make a a diffrence in the actual
quality of the picture, if the file is saved in the the same
resolution/quality. It is still the same JPEG file.
If the problem is the quality of the Windows explorer preview, it may
due to different image "pre-viewer" assiated with those file extensons
(.JPEG and .jpg).
Suggestion. Save the file as temp1.jpeg then make a copy of it in
windows and remane as temp2.jpg and compare the quality of the preview.
If it is different, then you got a confirmation of the reason.

The help says the higher the setting the higher the quality and the larger the file. ... I am thinking of converting all images to png immediately after importing from the camera, and keeping them as such, unless I really need to change it for something like emailing or publishing to a web album. ...
