Thanks to all who responded.
Here's the situation -- it's a LONG story, I'll hit only the high
points.
I maintain six websites. For several reasons, these sites are hosted
by three different hosts. Thus, my websites look like this:
HOST #1 has one site.
HOST #2 has three sites.
HOST #3 has two sites.
Using MS FP, the site on Host #1 publishes just fine.
The sites on Host #2 always show the "Unable to find server at
http:///mydomain.com" error.
Of the sites on Host #3, one publishes fine, one shows the same error.
Now -- these are personal websites -- family info, photos, hobbies,
political commentary, and the like. No shopping cart, no scripts, no
cute little rabbits bouncing around the screen -- just text, images,
and links.
I do like the FP common borders and common themes.
On ALL the sites, FTP works just fine. And, on all sites, I can open
the remote site in FP and edit pages on the remote site, including
creating new pages. For example, after trying and trying to publish
from my computer on one site, I:
-- FTP'ed two images to the appropriate folder on the remote site;
-- opened the remote site in FP, created a new page, added text and
links to the images and saved the new page.
-- the new page appeared on my site just as I wanted it.
However, when I edit the remote site using FP, it seems as though I
cannot make changes to the shared borders.
So -- my question is this: Because my sites are only text, photos,
and links, should I even worry about the fact that I cannot publish --
should I just go ahead and FTP or edit on the remote site and forget
about tearing my hair out because of a failure to publish?
Thanks.
