YOU have to give the web a name...default.htm is not a name for a website
it's the index or home page name. The web is what holds all the web
files...like a folder but with special other junk to make it work as a web.

Well I would have to agree with you but my problem is it will not
connect using http://localhost

I tried to open the site in IE and it fails also
http://localhost/default.htm
HTTP 404 Not found the webpage cannot be found


I guess one I figure this issue out then frontpage will start to work.

I will post something on the IIS NG for this now

I repost once I get the IIS issue resolved.

I uninstalled FSPE 2002 and tried again and found that it will not
install on Windows XP Pro with IIS 5 I must have missed the message the
first time I installed FSPE 2002 so I installed FPSE 2000 which comes
with Windows XP PRO and IIS 5 restarted the pc after each step just to
be safe.

Unless you have an idea on the http://localhost issue let me know

If your website is located in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ then you should open
it as http://localhost

If the error message says "no valid host" (what is the EXACT error?)
then the FrontPage extensions are either corrupt or non-existent. If
the site has always been edited as a disc-based web the the extensions
need to be re-installed - the contents of the _vti* folders are
different for servers than for disc based webs.

When the extensions are sorted ALWAYS open the web as
http://localhost - NEVER as c:\inetpub\wwwroot

With the files physically located in the folders associated with the
web server you cannot publish to the web server - there is no need to
do so if you open the site as http://localhost.

I added my userid to the permissions on the inetpub folder with full

I even copied the entire wwwroot folder to my F Drive and opened the
site from there and tried to publish to www.tomtest.com no luck


I am doing something simply wrong here this should not be that
difficult.

Like I said before I can publish to my Windows 2003 Server running
IIS6 no problem

Ironic all this to get the hit counter to work

Welp, if you're working with a local server (on your machine) you'd
open your site by; http://localhost/fred (could be; fred, barney,
wilma, or dino...doesn't matter what you call it...NO extension) then
you'd publish it to your online server http://www.tomtest.com

however, I'm not sure what your work flow is; if you're running your
own online server it may be different...dunno I've not done that.

Yes my IIS is running and it is 5.1 on my Windows XP Pro machine

My users can get to my site on my network via http://www.tomtest.com

This is the default site and Ihave default.htm and the default page
all working except for the hit counter on the default page.

So if I use Frontpage or Sharepoint option I should use
http://localhost/?????? what do I put for the default web site?


Sorry if I do not understand this I never published in Frontpage
before was just doing web design for my self and now others want to
see my site


default.htm is in the root web site using port 80

folder list path is c:\inetpub\wwwroot

What can I be doing wrong here

Do you have any way to remote connect to a machine?

The site I am trying to get the hit counter to work is on my pc.

I start FP then open my site wwwroot

When I try to publish to this site using Frontpage or Sharepoint
services it will not let me access the site. Keeps asking for
userid and password.

I use the same userid and password when I publish to my Windows
2003 server site.

FrontPage Server Extensions 2003 are installed. I know they are
becasue I was getting a RED X on my Hit Counter before I
installed FPSE 2002

Maybe permissions on the folders?

I have been puting IUSR_server1 id with read/write access on all
the folders that are under _priviate

Any thing else I can do. This is the last thing I need working
for this site.
