What happens when you add the www and try to publish to:http://www.mydomain.org

Same thing -- I tried that last night, adding www to the domain --
same error. Tried that again this morning a couple of times, too.

Thanks for the suggestion.

If this fails to help then ask your host to run a Server Health Check on
the website - this is not the same as reinstalling the extensions.

FP 2003. Trying to update my website. When I publish, things seem to
be going smoothly -- user ID and password pop up, FP starts to
connect. Then I get an error message: "Cannot locate a web server at
'mydomain.org' port 80. Check your proxy settings. If everything is
correct and you still cannot publish, the web server may be down." --
or something like that.

How do I fix this problem?

I published with no problem a week ago. I went to the hosting control
panel, uninstalled and reinstalled FP extensions -- no change.

My remote web site does not show up on my screen when I open FP.

After posting this plea for help, I went back to FP and tried to
publish. Nothing doing. But -- I could see the remote site in FP.

So -- I went to my browser and checked the site -- I had tried to
publish four new pages and three new photos. One of the new pages and
none of the photos were on the live site. I went back to FP and used
the copy command -- well, actually, I highlighted the pages and photos
on the local site (my hard drive) and used the little blue arrow in
the middle of the file window, pointing at the remote webs site, to
copy from my HD to the remote site -- I was able to copy the missing
pages and photos to the remote site and, when I opened my browser,
there they were -- looks like they were published -- links work,
etc.. And -- during the copy operation, a box popped up with the same
error message -- could not find a server on "mydomain.org" port 80.

NOW what??- Hide quoted text -

Tried that, didn't work.

Here's the strange thing:

-- I edit one or more pages on my local website -- that is, I open FP,
open the site (from my hard drive), open a page or two, make some text
changes, save, then I'm ready to publish.

-- I click on Publish Site.

-- The dialogue box opens that gives me several choices -- publish to
a FP site, FTP, etc., etc.  I select publish to a FP site (I think it
says to a site using Sharepoint Services).

-- It asks me the destination and I enterhttp://mydomain.org(Yes --
I have checked the spelling and, yes, I published without a problem a
week or so ago.)

-- Then, the box pops up that says the server is asking for a password
-- my user ID and password are automatically filled in from previous
publishing sessions.  Or, I re-enter the user ID and password -- and,
yes, I'm entering the correct info -- I have it written down and am
double-checking my spelling.

-- Then -- the remote website file structure pops up in the right-side
window; local website is in the left-side window.

-- At the bottom of the screen, FP says listing pages in c:/web sites/
mydomain.org;  then, FP says listhing pages inhttp://mydomain.org --
it's at that point I get the error message:

"Could not find a web server at 'mydomain.org' at port 80.Please check
to make sure the webserver name is valid and your proxky settings are
set correctly. If you are sure that everything is correct, the web
server may be out of service."

-- The last time I tried to publish, I got so far that FP popped up a
dialogue box that said "The following files have been changed on the
local web but are different on the remote site, what do you want to
do??  Ignore and continue; overwrite the remote file; cancel."  I
select overwrite remote files.

-- Then, up pops the error message.

And, as I said before, I have been able to copy files from local to
remote server by using the little blue arrows that are in the space
between the left- and right-hand windows that show the file structures
of the local and remote webs.

I have asked my website host to look into things and to run Server
Health Check.- Hide quoted text -
