Re: What are disadvantages of frontpage server extensions

Being very, very careful:
When using FTP on a FrontPage extensions site:

1) Only move a single file at a time

2) NEVER move a folder. If you need a new folder on the site, create it with the FTP program, do NOT upload it.

3) Do NOT even think about moving a folder or file with a name starting with _vti_ . Even thinking about this will corrupt the extensions.

To upload to a website with FrontPAge extensions: File->Publish Site (or Publish Web) and type in the destination address in the form http://www.example.com
If publishing a subweb - use http://www.example.com/subwebname as the location.

Without FrontPAge extensions: File->Publish Site
Type in the address: ftp://www.example.com Leave the FTP folder blank.
If publishing a subweb: the location is ftp://www.example.com
The FTP folder is subwebname

Thanks for a great answer. Can I ask you to elaborate a little on:

1. how we would 'be very, very careful' if we used ftp?

2. How , in fp, would we upload to our website? (if you can give as much
detail as possible it will be really helpfull - and probably save me another
4 days work !)

Thank you for your time.
