OK, I need a bit more specific help.
You say "Expression Web will support shared borders in *existing* pages, but
will
not support editing FrontPage link bars or Navigation View." What does that
mean? That EW will open my FP webs and keep my pages with shared borders as
is? Will they still function the same as in FP?
Basically, my webs in FP all used shared borders. The backgrounds are
applied to the entire page via "page properties", thus not specific to the
borders. But my top shared borders have the company logo; my left borders
have custom picture link buttons, my bottom border has copyright info, etc.
If I go to EW, will I have to re-do every page in every website or will EW
convert this type of layout effectively?
Help, please, I have hundreds of pages!!!

Shared borders do not require FrontPage extensions, unless you use.
custom background colours for the border regions or custom link bars for
navigation within the borders. However, you will have to edit your
sites on your own PC - you would have to do that anyway if the
extensions are removed from the server, and you continue with FrontPage.
Expression Web will support shared borders in *existing* pages, but will
not support editing FrontPage link bars or Navigation View.
Note that shared borders were deprecated in FrontPage 2003, replaced by
Dynamic Web Templates which are fully supported in Expression Web.

I'm frantically searching these discussion groups for some practical
answers/advice. I have my own web site and 5 client sites, some with 100+
pages. No one mentioned this but I found out that "shared borders" is one of
the FP components that will NOT work without extensions. ALL my websites,
every page, are set up with shared borders!!! I can't possibly re-do every
page in one week and it's ridiculous to have to re-do every page in a site
every time you add a link button or update a logo!
Does anyone have any answer to this dilemna??? Does anyone know for sure if
Expression Web can convert FP webs with borders and make it basically
function the same? HELP!

You can still use FP, but you'll need to use FTP instead of http publishing,
and you won't be able to use any of the FP components that require the
extensions, such as forms, guest book, discussion group, etc.
