Thank you all for your suggestions. So I would like to consolidate all of
the things everyone is recommending for my and other's benefit on the
newsgroup. Please comment and/or make corrections as needed.

If FP extensions 2002 on Server 2003 aren't working and you'd like to
reinstall:

1) ONLY use the FP2002 Extensions which are included on the Windows Server
2003 CD to reinstall.

Correct.

2) It is best to restart the whole server after uninstalling FP2002x before
reinstalling them from the Server2003 CD

Correct, you may also want to un-install IIS as well.

3) From Mr. Rowe's comment "It is always best to publish FP web between
location, especially when using the FP extensions." -- I'm taking this to
mean that when migrating, you need to have the full version of FP installed
on one of the servers, and use it to re-publish the pages that use FP
extensions...is this correct?

No, the FP client doesn't need to be installed on either Server, just a Workstation/PC, as long as
it has the ability to access both sites via IP addresses.

Thanks much,
Hopefully this may help out others also.

Those extensions are 1) probably illegal (breach of copyright and
licensing), and 2) only for use with Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro.
Windows 2003 will not be able to use them.

If you can successfully uninstall the extensions currently on the
server, I would restart it, but you may get away with restarting IIS
only.

thanks for your response. a gentleman from this forum suggested that this
might be a good place to get the extensions:

http://www.filewatcher.com/m/fpse02_x86_ENG.exe.2209176.0.0.html

my issue is that I'm doing the work remotely so I can't physically place
cd's in the server tray, etc. so, if using the Server2003 cd is the only
viable option though then I will have to factor this into our execution
plan.

Also, does uninstalling fp extensions require a restart of the server? this
is a live production server, so I'd like to just restart iis if I
could...but then again I want to go the route of best practices...

thanks!

Where are you getting the FP extensions from? They MUST be installed
from the Windows 2003 CD - any other source will always give problems.
Exception: if you are using a 64bit version of Windows 2003, then the
extensions should be downloaded from Microsoft. Otherwise - ALWAYS use
the version on the Windows 2003 CD.

Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out if I need to reinstall FP Extensions 2002. I
migrated several websites from IIS4/NT Server into a new IIS6/Server 2003
machine. Everything works fine on the sites...but not the FP Extension
enabled pages. As far as I know, FP Exts are only used for form submission
(i.e. no login/pw or other stuff). So, I'm trying to get these fp forms to
work again on the websites I migrated from IIS4.

So, I already have FP Extensions 2002 installed. I can access the admin web
page and I can successfully extend FP to the migrated web sites. I can
successfully do everything that I can think of...but still the FP forms on
these websites don't work.

Also, I am getting the all too common error logs:
---------------------------------
Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions:
Error reading IIS default Vroot info

Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions:
Error #3005f Message: Unable to read configuration for Microsoft
Internet
Information Server.
--------------------------------

I have been reading about this but the MS knowledge base article pertaining
to this only deals with worker process mode for IIS5, and I am running
IIS6.
Here is the link that isn't so helpful to me:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319305
**I have already changed the worker process modes in IIS6 to try to fix the
errors but they still occur...

I've seen several postings of people recommending reinstalling FP 2002
Extensions. Is this my best/only choice? What work does this entail? I
think
I have the media as a kind person forwarded me a link but are the FP
extension files really only like 3Mb in size?

ok, enough questions....

thanks!
