Re: Server Extensions Missing

Have you un-installed and then re-installed the FP extensions?

When I try to open the site I get a message:
The folder 'http://mc23/' isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an
unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a /
or \.

My original question remains--what is FP checking to determine whether FPSE
is installed?

What happen when you open http://mc23 in FP via File Menu | Open Site and then create a folder,
then
right click and select to convert it to site?

Open Front Page 2003
File New 1 page web site

named http://mc23/new1 (mc23 is my machine name)

It is at that point that I get the error message.

The identical technique works on two other machines that I have. I believe
the problem is unique to this machine.

Following is the cntent of the log file

Ok, give me the exact steps that you are taken to create a new web.

Under Windows XP IIS you can only have a single root web (http://127.0.0.1 / http://localhost
/
http://mymachinename ). You can have a unlimited number of subwebs.

Please don't ask me again about the old webs. Plain and simple, I want to
create a new web with FrontPage.

The error message is The Web server at "http://mc23"; does not appear to have
Windows SharePoint Services installed.

Please reread my original issue.

Where are the webs located that you said that you copied to c:\inetpub\wwwroot or have
attempted

publish?

You seem to be missing the point. I cannot publish the web because I get an
error message indicating that the extensions or Sharepoint are not installed.
If you are talking about creating subwebs via the management console, I
tried that as well, and after installing the extensions, FP still says they
are not installed.

"Thomas A. Rowe" wrote:

Do not copy the web site(s)! You need to publish them, but only after you have created
the
web(s)
first and then applied the extensions under IIS MMC.

First-I am trying to create a new web site and get the error message.

Second, when I copied older webs into c:\inetpub\wwwroot and then apply the
extensions, the same error message occurs.

Did you actually apply the extensions to each web site under IIS via the IIS MMC?

For the second time, I have a new HP PC with Windows Media Center Edition (XP
Pro plus other features).

I installed IIS and FPSE via control panel. When I go to publish a web with
FP, I get a message indicating Server Extensions not installed or SharePoint
not installed.

This happens with any version of FP that I try.

Does anyone know what FP checks, or how the determination is made?

I even went so far as copying all of c:\inetpub\wwwroot from a working XP
PRO machine, but with no success. I also ununstalled and reinstalled with
no success.

FPSE worked on both a SONY and a Gateway Media Center PC, so I don't think
Media Center is the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Marvin
