That sounds like a permissions problem in the _vti_bin folder. Your Host
will have to check this, since the folder is not in your web site.
Try opening the online website in FrontPage,
then Tools->Server->Administration Home
You may have to log in again here
Scroll down to Server Health and run Check server health
Tick all the check boxes.
Don't worry if a "tighten security" problem reappears - this always happens
(there is a note on the web page to this affect).
This *may* cure the problem, or may not.
Note that Administration Home may not be available - some hosts disable
this option.

I tried that two ways. First I opened the local copy recalculated and then
re-published the site. Then I opened the web site directly in FP and
recalculated.
Now whenever I try to Post or Search the web site login screen pops up
and
wants me to login to the host server before it will execute the command.
This is getting frustrating. Like one step forward two back.

Open the discussion web on the server in FrontPage,
then run Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks
This will update the text index used by the search.

I was able to publish to the Linux-based server but the Search
functionality
is still not working properly.
I am not getting the same error messages. But when I try to search a
message
comes back telling me "No documents found. Please try again."
Thanks again for your patience and help.

FP extensions can be loaded onto either Windows or Unix servers. The
difference is the search mechanism.
The search on Windows servers (using Index Server) can be much more
flexible than on Unix (using WAIS) if the server admins are willing
to
configure the server accordingly - it appears that Godaddy are not so
willing.

Thank you Ronx!
My issue was finally escalated to the Godaddy "Advanced Hosting
Team"
who
promptly told me that the Search functionality within the
Discussion
Group is
not available if your web site is on a Godaddy Windows-based
hosting
server.
They told me that I would have to move to one of their Linux-based
servers.
This does not make any sense to me because I was under the
impression
that
the FrontPage Server Extensions could only be loaded on a Windows
server?

Bernie

If the discussion web is in its own subweb (recommended practice),
then
delete the subweb (make a backup first).
Otherwise, see www.rxs-enterprises.org/tests/discussion/pages.htm
which
may assist.

I think I've check and verified that everything was correct. But
I
still
can
not get the Search page to work correctly. I want to delete the
discussion
board from my web site, remove and then re-install the server
extensions
and
then re-install the discussion board.
Can anyone please tell me what files and folders need to be
removed?
Thanks,
Bernie

Thank you all for your help!
I will call godaddy to ask them about how they setup the Server
Extensions.

The error message quoted is from nortbots.htm.
nortbots.htm only appears in five cases:
1) You are testing on a disc-based website, including a
FrontPage
disc-based web that is being browsed through a web-server.
2) You are testing on a website that does not have server
extensions
installed or running
3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web,
or
published
using a FTP address for the destination, or published to a
file
system
destination including a network share or UNC address (like
\\machinename\path\webname). Publish must be to a URL of the
form
http://example.com, or the site was published to a disc based
location
(example C:/sitename/)
4) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes
this
problem.
5) The site was correctly published, but the extensions were
not
installed
correctly or were mis-configured. Re-installing the
extensions
may
correct
the problem.
For the discussion web problems,
http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/tests/discussion/
may help.

I setup a new web site on an ISP's server
(http://www.hurricanerunners.com).
The problem that I am having is that my Discussion Board
does
not
work.
I spoke to the ISP's support and they told me that they do
support
FP
Server
Extensions and that I had set them upproperly for my site.
But,
still, I
get
the following error messages.
"You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page
that
requires a
web
server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function
properly.
This
form or
other FrontPage component will work correctly if you
publish
this
web to
a
web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions
installed."
I also get the following error message:
"Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page:
In the FP Reports there are two Component Errors:
Error 1 .... disc1_post.htm - A FrontPage Discussion
component
is
incorrectly configured. You must provide values for the
"Directory
and
Table
of contents layout (s-dir-name and s-toc-fields)"
parameters(s).
Error 2 .... disc1_srch.htm - This page contains a
FrontPage
Search
component that will not function properly until you publish
your
FrontPage
Web to a server.
My first problem is that I do not know where to specify the
s-dir-name
and
s-toc fields.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
