Re: FP 2003 message: An error occurred accessing Windows Sharepoint S

Graham,

Did you receive any news (good or otherwise) from your call?

I spent another hour or so with FP support on Monday. We went through the
process of building a new web site to see if the problem recurred. Went
through modifying some of my security settings, did the Server Check Health
bit, and still received the error message about Sharepoint. Turned off my
software firewall, told Norton AV's Autoprotect to disregard all files under
C:\Inetpub, and yes, Kathleen, I even ran across the same error message you
did.

Support is going to "discuss amongst themselves" to see if they can offer
anything else constructive.

I have logged a call with PSS

I notice that KB917537 was released on 17th July which is around the time
when these problems emerged. Some of the permissions on my IIS
installation
now show write deny. I can't publish to local host. FrontPage cannot
create a
sub web either.

Will keep you posted...

I'm running Windows XP Pro with SP2 and FP 2003 with the most recent set
of
Microsoft updates.

Recently I've started receiving the following message:

"An error occurred accessing your Windows Sharepoint Services site files.
Authors - if authoring against a Web server, please contact the Webmaster
for this server's Web site. WebMasters - please seee the servers's
application event log for more details."

Well, the web sites that I'm getting this error message are running
locally
(http://machine_name/site_name) and this message pops up when I try to
open
a site, or when I attempt to edit pages, or when I attempt to publish
changes to the remote site, or even if I try to look at the Tools.. Site
Settings.

Needless to say, most of the articles I've seen on Google refer to a
Windows
Server issue - and that's not the case with this local workstation.

To further confuse the issue, I don't know what "server's application
event
log" this message is referring to.

Does anyone have any idea of a) what caused this to start happening and
b)
some mechanism to correct it?

Thanks!
