Please try the following steps in the technet article.

Connecting Web Sites to UNC Network Shares
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechn
ol/sppt/sharepnt/proddocs/admindoc/owsj04.asp

Ignore the following area while configuring.

To determine the IIS instance number for a virtual server
To modify the registry to enable group accounts
To modify the registry to specify a different group account for the virtual
server.

After configuring, extend the site only using the command line tool.
