Depends on your hosting package and your host...some *nix/Apache hosts have a control panel that will allow you to add/remove the extensions. But, first you need to check with your host to see if your package includes FP extensions.
They make your life easier in the long run - as long as you don't break them by using ftp to upload your webs.
