You need to create the Web first (usually on your local machine)...then create other pages WITHIN the FP Web. FP needs to create other files to support the webpages that's why you need to create the Web first (yes it will be empty of any of YOUR content).

You 'typically' will be Publishing to http://yourweb.com/ (do not include the index page after the slash. Sometimes it will be http://www.yourweb.com/ .

FP will 'adjust' the index page to html OR htm depending on what your server requires...you can delete the extra one later OR find out from your host which extension you should use for the index page.

| Ok - you have to forgive me - I've created websites in html before by
| uploading files to a web directory, and thought I could do the same with
| Front Page. So, I've created a collection of html files but haven't actually
| created the website yet. I looked in Front Page help in trying to create
| the website, but when it asks for the URL, I put "http://(the ip
| address)/index.htm" and then went to the Folder List, selected index.html and
| then Preview in Browser. However, the page came up blank. I realize I did
| something wrong - now it has index.htm/index.html. I appreciate your help.
