It's a real pain to uninstall PWS from an XP or 2K machine if it's been mistakenly installed.

Try going into services, via Control panel > Administrative Tools > Services and see if PWS is
listed as a service. If so, right click it, select properties, and then set it to Disabled.
Restart the machine and see if it helps.

Be advised the following is *not* a Microsoft recommended procedure.
If so to fully remove it you will then need to set Device manager to "Show hidden devices" (
requires entering a command from a command prompt ) then open device manager click View then "Show
hidden devices" then select Non plug and play drivers and delete it from the list that shows.

You need to be extremely careful with this part, but if you want post back and I'll post the
details.
