Thanks to Jim Buyens and the other people who answered my emails.

Our web hosting provider does support FP server extensions but only on
special servers. (Either way, they are Linux boxes running Apache.)
No extra charge but they advise against going that way.

I'm reluctant to make use of FP server extensions because they take
away some of my control over what happens. And I've seen Microsoft
tout a new approach only to de-emphasize it a couple of years later.
So I'm going slowly and asking for advice.
