IIS and localhost - please help

Installed new HD and now am trying to set up the localhost on XP pro again.
I installed the IIS and FP extensions. Now don't I need to "extend the
server"? I cannot do this because I get unauthorized message when I try to
"Check Server Extensions".

I cannot publish to localhost - it says that website does not exist and do I
want to create one. I click yes and then it goes back Remote Web Site
Properties page where I just was.

If I go to http://localhost it brings up http://localhost/localstart.asp and
tells me the web service is running. I do not have a default web page set
up, etc.

I hope I do not have to format and reinstall Windows XP again.
Thanks for help. It has been an experience replacing HD.

Susan
