    there are basically two kinds (com add-ins and web components).
    com add-ins are much more complicated, where the web components are very
    easy.
    when I needed to make one for the application I was recently working on MS
    Press FrontPage Inside Out had the info and I was able to have it all rigged
    up in a couple of hours.

    What is it you're trying to do exactly? The reason I ask is that there may
    already be a solution out there, and secondly to possibly give you the right
    name for the particular component you may need.
