For web application you need to know :-
- server language : for database update
- client language, eg: javascript
- HTML code
- database, eg: MSSQL, MySQL
- web server software, eg: IIS, Apache
I am using ActiveFoxproPage www.afpages.com now and the advantages :-
- continue with Foxpro coding and dbf/cdx
- learn basic only for Html and javascript
The disadvantages :-
- redesign all screen interface using html+javascript
But there are tons of ready menu and scripts for download.
What important is I make a fast integration on web access to existing foxpro database and satisfy customer's request for web application.

I have been happy developing in fpw26 and vfp for many year, and it has sustained the company I half own, with 6 f/t employees servicing the church and charity sector in UK. All our applications are view-based, working either on a local machine or on a network, using vfp tables and DBCs only.
We are being asked more and more "Will your applications work across the web?" - meaning they would like e..g the membership or financial system to be available to other charity employees accessing via Internet. I have been happily cocooned in vfp desktop applications only, so I don't know where to start and need advice on books to read, courses to attend or firms to contact for mentoring.
I think I would like to stay with vfp front ends because it will see me out to retirement (8-10 years). However the company is thriving at the moment and we need to look beyond my retirement. I know nothing about ASP.NET, VB.NET, Java, C#, how to gain access and transfer data across internet, what back-end tables to use if not vfp (and our customers would not like to pay licences if these are required for e.g. SQL SERVER or similar). I have used and have been very impressed by West-Wind components for email but have not used anything else of theirs to do with Internet.
I have in the past confused .NET with 'works across Internet' and am still hazy about what tools I need to learn.
What advice would people give to enable me to develop apps for my customers to run their applications (from the desktop or across the web??) and share their data with other web users.
Many thanks
Stephen
