Re: VFP Updates?

Craig,
I feel that this is the reason that some people dislike Vista and are now
not liking MS and going to the Mac. They have so many safe guards that the
user has a hard time doing what they want with the computer. The user should
run the computer not the computer run the user. Why do you even have a
register??? Why does MS track everything you do so that someone can get into
your computer and see what you have done?? If they did not do this maybe
others would not want to hack into your computer in the first place. There
is no reason to track every site that you visit and log all you have done
for weeks at a time. The way I load a program the user can remove it and put
it anyplace they want. My hang-up now is that I have a lot of user that want
to go to the Mac and my VFP will not run on the Mac unless you have a dual
operating system.

I've never said your exe will get infected, only that if it does, you may
take the blame from your customers.

There is also another way to look at this...Microsoft has been saying for
years that we should run as Standard User on XP. They simply enforced it
on Vista. Rather than fight the way things are on Vista, there's no reason
that we can't use the system as designed. My policy is that I never use
applications that don't install "correctly" (meaning in Program Files)
unless required to do so by my employer. There are none like that on my
personal PC.

Craig,
You may be correct in what you are promoting. I have over 1000 users
using my apps installed on servers in separate folders and so far I may
just be lucky but after 12 years of running this way I have had very
small problems. Very easy to backup and I also allow the user to put the
app on flash drives and they can put it into any computer and run the
apps off of the flash drives. I think to many people are afraid that the
users will give the apps to there friends and not purchase them and that
is why they are so protective of the apps and scatter them around and
fool with the register. I have found that if you allow good users to load
and unload and save the folders the way they want to you have very small
problems. Anyway I may just be lucky but I am not about to tell all these
users that they can't run the apps the way they have been.
