RE: Migrating to Terminal Services

4) It’s very slow to export Excel files from the server to local machines
directly. You can export Excel files to the server first and then copy Excel
files to local machines.
5) Please use as less color as possible on your forms.

1) The most important is make internet connection stable. Unlike web-based
applications, terminal service needs connection always on. The connection is
pretty easy to be lost in shopping centers. Adding one more filter to the
phone line for ADSL can be very helpful.
2) Please do not use server printing. There is a trouble to install printer
driver. But this is not the biggest trouble. The biggest trouble is if you
print from the server, the printing job could be stuck at any time and push
CPU usage very high. You can download a few XML files to the local machine
and write a small program for local machines to pick up those files to print
or even email.
3) Please do not use server for email or web browsing.

We are now serious about migrating to Terminal Services using the Internet.
I would expect to use VFP90, altho some forms were written in 50 but seem to
work in 90. Any suggestions about using Terminal Services would be
appreciated. My clients want to have one common set of tables on a server
rather than each store having its own seperate set of tables which must be
uploaded to the offices each night for consolidation. Also, separate stores
are not "live" nor "real time" which could be up-to-date on one server.
