Hi Missy,
I can't resist commenting
you know the old saying "there is your side, their side, and
the truth"
but, assuming you have portrayed the situation absolutely
correctly:
then I would tell them:
1. I am sorry to say that it seems to me that neither party
is happy with the current situation.
2. I have spent more time on this than I can really afford
and cannot continue to do so.
3. I may be willing to make a few minor changes if you can
clearly and specifically spell out, in writing, what changes
you want.
4. If you are totally unhappy with the system, perhaps you
should get someone else to develop a system for you; in that
case, I would be glad to help them any way I can, as I am
able
5. Unfortunately, I cannot give the code to you as that
would invalidate any rights I have to my own work and since
this is how I make my living;
6. In any case, you are free to continue using the system
free of charge
as an aside, if they want to badmouth you, there is nothing
you can do about it, unless you want to get really hardnosed
and tell them if they do badmouth you and you lose any
business because of it, you will then sue them collectively
and separately for all they are worth

Thanks for your thoughts.
Just a few points of clarification. I created an admin
screen for the
functions that they needed. They have full control to add
or edit
content and to create users and set up profiles for them.
They have
everything they need to run the system and it works. I
implemented
their user interface design and they don't like it but I
have offered
to gladly make any revisions.
This is a volunteer organization so any damage they do
will land on me
to fix it or be blamed on me. Either way, it is bad for
me.
There is no money otherwise I would gladly sell them the
source code.
Usually I work by the hour and leave my code on site. For
this, there
is no money to make revisions or any changes. The system
is dependent
upon volunteers and I volunteered to do the technical work
and create
a system. I picked up a GLP CMS system and created a
custom module.
Now they are wanting to take all my work and give it to
someone not
even a programmer.
I just see this ending up in an ugly way for me no matter
what. I
have spent so many hours on the cause and now I am feeling
totally
used. I want to finish the project because it is a good
cause. If
another guy gets my work, they will say "Oh, the code is
so messy and
that girl didn't know what she was doing and now I am here
to save the
day!". I have rarely seen a clean hand-off and I know
that they will
never find another programmer who is willing to work for a
bunch of
really bitchy women for free.
No good deed goes unpunished.
.
