I appreciate the irony, but from an applications point of view, it was Fox that powered the biggest mortgaging operation in the country. And they are (or were) a major employer of Fox developers - several dozen, when I worked there.
As far a being a success or not, I think that today, any mortgage company who doesn't go belly up is successful! And B of A asserted that acquiring Countrywide's "back office" was one of their reasons for offering to buy them.

At the moment, I wouldn't hold Countrywide up as a shining example of a business success. ;-).
(Note: I wish them well! Where I live, they're the biggest employer in the county! Their recent layoffs have exacerbated the real estate fiasco they helped create!)

It should also be pointed out that support for FoxPro DOS ended years
ago - but their are plenty of FPD programs still going strong. In
fact, Countrywide Home Loans processes every single mortgage through
a program called Edge, which is a hodge-podge of legacy DOS code with
VFP additions.

A more notable paraphrase - 'Why Develop it anymore? We are finally,
after 10 years of development, finished. It's stable and mature'
Support, however, doesn't stop until 2015.
What happens after 2015 ? Who knows?
Most Dot Something languages currently DO NOT HAVE support out to
that date. I can't think of a single SUBSTANTIATED business decision that would
predicate switiching
over to that Dot Something platform.
Nota.Bene.- 'Because the Boss said so' is not a solid business
decision. OTOH - many shops have switched, cause MS was successful with the
marketing push.
I'm sure others will chime in, but that's my 2 EU on it.

We are a pretty heavy Visual FoxPro shop. I understand thatif
Microsoft is going to stop development and supporting Visual
FoxPro. (Please correct me
I'm wrong.)We
Just wondering if there is anyone out there that has transitioned
from Visual FoxPro to a ASP .NET environment and the best way to do
that and if you would suggest the VB .NET route or the C .NET route.
I think it would be easier to transfer to VB .NET. But I might be
wrong.
are going to go to a ASP .NET environment...just wondering the bestdo
way to
that.
And is there an advantage of going to VB .NET as opposed to C .NET
or vice versa???
Thanks in advance for your time and feedback.
