copy and paste

I keep several backups of my projects which I find easiest to do by copying from the C drive and pasting onto an external hard drive or a flash drive.

However, I find that I then get extra and unwanted files. For example, attend.dbc is copied, but a new file aattend.dbc also appears.

What is going on ?
