I was also going to suggest going to a much smaller monitor in order to compress the image - you can get some pretty good deals on old monitors.

Just a thought.

LOL - very funny. I'm not sure if Rush is being flippant or just joking around. If he's joking then fine but if he is serious then he is obviously completely ignorant to the different JBIG compression algorithms as well as the reasons of why I'm trying to accomplish this and why it is so very important. Aloaha's product has the color algorithms but lacks the JBIG2 monochrome algorithms for pdf files.

Thanks,

No trouble, just use a monochrome monitor . . .

I contacted the company and their product only works with pdfs for color.
I'm looking for something in black and white and the only thing I could find
so far was kind of expensive.

Have you had a look at the Aloaha PDF Saver (ocx)?
http://www.aloaha.com/wi-software-en/pdf-activex-ocx.php
It has a compression function which appears to do what you want.
I can't make it work properly as my demo version won't allow it.
The on-line documentation is minimal and I think you need
to obtain the SDK from Aloaha.

Does anyone know of a control that will read in a pdf and write it back
in in black and white with a different resolution?

Thanks,
Mike

I tested this product last year.
It's very good and integrates well with VFP but
unfortunately didn't quite meet my requirements.

Good luck with it!

Thanks, I missed seeing that. Downloading trial version now.

Wrong page - that's for the VCL.
Try this for the OCX (VFP is listed as a supported platform):

Mike this look good, but says the development environments supported
are only Delphi and C++ Builder.

The Gnostice toolkit ActiveX control might do what you want as I see
it does extract metadata from the pdf files. It's not free but it's
under $500 royalty free distribution. Take a look at
http://www.gnostice.com/pdftoolkitFeatures.asp#docextract

I'm not sure if it will do what you want but I came across it when I
was and am still looking for a control do do what I want which is to
rewrite a pdf at a lower resolution preferably in the JBIG2
compression.

I couldn't find any way of programmically extracting the text using
this technology. I've found a lot of .NET code that I might try
working with instead.

Thanks

I didn't find any free ones, but this one seems relatively
inexpensive.

You might try using Google to find others, try "extract data from
PDF" or similar.
