I could be displaying my ignorance and lack of expertise here, but it
seems to me Microsoft is heading toward the Rube Goldberg approach to
programming when it comes to Foxpro. New "issues" and workarounds
seem to pop up regularly.
Such as?
the posts I've seen on this ng (but I DO recognize the valuable help
you guys give to the users).
True! So then why are they dropping it?
Perhaps its genesis lies in the fact Foxpro originated as a
non-Microsoft app, which resulted in MS eventually deciding to give up
and drop Foxpro, or at least provide the impetus (or encouragement at
least) for us to switch to their other tools.
So you think they spent in excess of $100mil (which was real money back then
<g>) for a product just to kill it and then it took them 15 years to get the
job done? That doesn't make much sense.
Why? NIH?
Ask any FrontPage(RIP) MVP. They'll tell you the truth is that MS just has
it in for products with the initials FP.
I'm not familiar enough with Microsoft's other development tools and
I may be too old to switch, but I'm curious. Do those other tools
developed by Microsoft in the pre-fox days have as many "issues" too?
They actually have *more* issues because the code base is not as mature and
is ever-changing.

Ok, ok, good points. I'm really not a MS-hater. But I think you'll
agreee they ARE the 800 pound gorilla in the business. A good example
(non-FP): If recent newspaper reports are correct (a 50% possibility),
MS's Vista's search engine slows down Google's search engine and MS
won't let the user turn off their search engine. If true, that's
arrogant.
