Man-wai Chang seemed to utter in news:uwFPwY6LHHA.3424@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:
Is the "they" you are referring to visually impaired users?
Are you suggesting that visually impaired users "don't have
to deal with computers directly" but rather should get
someone else to operate the computer for them?
Yes. I am not alienating against them. If this support must be offered,
I would say to design different versions of OS, with each tailored to
handle a certain kind of disability, not adding un-necessary features to
the version normal users use.
Having spent time with blind users and attending siminars
dealing with this very subject, I can assure you that your
cavalier dismissal of the visually impaired is very offensive.
Hundreds of thousands of visually impaired people in the
U.S. alone can operate computers and gain independence and
access to information thanks to the features that *are*
built into applications and the OS. I have heard Bill Gates
speak on this. Microsoft takes this aspect of computing
very seriously. As application developers, we should to.
