Thanks for your response.

Basically we don't OWN foxpro per se. I am trying to find a 3rd-party
application to use to make changes to my .dbf files.

Sage's AbraSuite has licensed foxpro and use it as the data repository
for their HR application.

I can see clearly, using a couple of trial versions of various 3rd
party dbf manipulation applications, that the field width is set to 25
.... I don't seem to have a mechanism by which I can change it... I know
we'd have to also make changes at the reporting tool layer as well..
but the first step, I think, is to figure out how to expand this
field's character width at the database layer...

in a perfect world, we'd figure out how to expand it at the database
layer, then the application layer (where the data is
added/modified/deleted) and then the reporting layer...

We'll keep plugging... we're a non-profit with charity licensing for
all of our MS products so if you can hook me up with an up-to-date
version of foxpro that'd be great..

You can run any VFP command at runtime, If you want it I can send you a compiled app to acomplish this, in the case of modify an character field to 308 chars is not possible, just changing his data type to Memo. ...
