Anybody know how long after version 8 came out before they first anounced
version 9??

There is no way to confirm this. Historically MS has not "officially"
announced a next version until well into the beta testing. Also, one of the
normal marketing answers is "It depends on how well the new (current)
version sells!" - after they are in the business of making money.
