512 is what I consider a MINIMUM for Windows XP alone, as a workstation, and
you are pressing it into service as a server (a task it is poorly suited
for) as well as being a workstation.
The WinXP box says "256MB required". But that's the minimum for XP! No
software works at its best at the minimum configuration. If you want to run
any software on it, you need RAM for that software as well.
As I said, you are starting from the LEAST optimal configuration.

Windows XP is not a server operating system, so you're starting from theit
LEAST optimal configuration.
How much memory does the XP machine have?

I have a foxpro 2.6 application that is meant to run on more than one
machine. The office has two computers, one working as a server. The
server
runs Windows XP, the other computer runs Windows 98.
The program works fine on the server machine, and on the other machine,
bytakes a long time to run a very simple SQL select
(select FIELDS from FILE where FIELD=variable and FIELD=variable order
toFIELD,FIELD,FIELD)
-- it can take 5 full seconds to pull up a list. Does anyone know how
speed it up?
The file has about 40k records in it, so it should not take so long.
