Hi,
I'm glad I can help you. I have just a few questions to help narrow down
what could be happening.
Do you have a connector set to forward to Smarthost? If so, can you telnet
to that smarthost and drop off a message?
If not, is it when they send to all domains that they have this issue? Or
can they send to some without trouble?
Can you run an NSLOOKUP on the Exchange server to check the DNS? To run an
NSLookup, follow these steps:
1) open command prompt on the Exchange server
2) type NSLOOKUP and hit enter
3) type "set q=mx" (without quotes) and hit enter
4) type one of the domains you are trying to send to like Microsoft.com and
hit enter
5) It should bring back the MX and A records for the domain you are sending
to.
When you get the IP address, try to telnet to that IP and drop off a
message.
I have seen cases in the past where someone is attempting to send mail to 2
or 3 addresses and the DNS is only returning the IP address for the first,
thus you get an NDR on the other 2. What version and service pack is your
DNS server at?
Do your users have Outlook set up to use the Exchange Server Service in
their client or do they have Internet Mail Service?
Best Regards,
Beth
