If Exchange servers in both organizations are on recent builds i.e Exchange
2000 + rollups or Exchange 2003 SP1, then they would not attempt to
authenticate to each other when sending mail.

If you are still getting this error, then I suspect you have authentication
(cross -forest auth) configured between the two organizations. If this is
not the case, I would turn the transport diagnostic loggig down to level
NONE.
