I presume you mean in your public DNS, not in AD?

If you are indeed talking about your public MX record pointing to
mail.yourdomain.com, this doesn't matter - it doesn't have to match anything
in your internal naming scheme. You just need to make sure that
mail.yourdomain.com points to the correct public IP on your network, and
that the port forwarding/NAT in your firewall/router is set to the correct
private IP of the Exchange server.
