Re: Exchange 2003 Backup

It is because you are backing up the store then the transaction logs. The
verify won't get to the transaction logs as they have been committed.

You could parse it on bytes instead?

Hi there,

We run a number of servers (around 1000), around 50% of which are running
Exchange on them. Recently (or not so) we have started using some servers
running server 2003 with exchange 2003. After a plethora of issues
(thankfully most now resolved), we have one that is still there (although
non-critical).

When backing up the information store, with /l:f, using MS' ntbackup
'solution', we get (with a substitute on test server name):

This all looks to have backed up fine, and the eventlogs show no errors,
however this information has to then be passed onto our users. The
information is parsed (along with the backup of the rest of the system)
and
a small (1k) file is produced, effectively saying "yay" or "nay" you had a
(n un) successful backup.

The parser however is reporting nay to the above, as the # of files backed
up is not the same as the number of files verified. Indeed, having
manually
triggered a backup and watching it, it doesn't actually look to be
verifying
anything when it does it.

My question is, does it actually verify what is written to the tape with
that which is on disk? Is there a hotfix that corrects the output of the
log?

All answers/solutions/hints gratefully appreciated.
