RE: Nt Backup of Exchange 2003 Information Store Generates Evnet I

Hi Westernwind,

I appreciate you taking time to respond. You may have a misunderstanding
regarding my last mail.

1. The hotfix 833167 provided by Microsoft is intended to correct the
specific problem caused by Volume Shadow Copy Service. It is supported by
Microsoft of course. If the message that service pack level the system was
already on was newer than the hotfix appears during applying the hotfix, it
means that you already update the dll files included in the hotfix 833167,
which may happen when you apply other Windows update before.

2. You don't need to perform the 5 steps. Please understand that based on
our knowledge, the issue you encountered can have many possible causes
which we need to determine through further troubleshooting and research.
Actually, these 5 steps are the successfully case summary with the same
issue as you encountered. The reason why I provided this is because I want
you to know that conflict between NTBackup and VSS is one of the possible
causes of the issue you encountered. And that's why I provide the steps to
apply hotfix 833167. According to the message during applying hotfix, it
indicates the conflict between NTBackup and VSS is not the cause of the
issue.

3. If you already separate Exchange Backup task from system state backup,
in order to have a more concrete idea about the issue, please send the
NTBackup log to me: v-leeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Additionally, please go to the following link to download and collect the
MPS report for the Exchange Server.
