We recently moved from exchange 5.5 to 2000. There are no 5.5 servers
anymore in our domain.
I understand 5.5 used mapi while 2000 uses SMTP.
We all use Outlook 2000 in the Corporate/Workgroup mode. In our services we
have Exchange for internal email and Internet email pointing to a third
party ISP. We don't use .pst files so all our mail is stored on the
Exchange 2000 server. Upon reading some articles, I found out that all our
mail goes out through exchange, even our Internet email. We don't have
exchange setup for Internet email, it does not have a public IP address. I
can't really find any articles pertaining to our enviroment, other than
creating two profiles in Outlook, one for Internet Email and another for
Exchange internal mail. This senario is not an option because we don't want
users have to switch between profiles. Should I install an SMTP connector
on the exchange 2000 server even though Interent email does not come in
through it? If so, should I have that SMTP connector pointing to our third
party ISP hosting our Internet email?
