Also make sure you re-apply any service packs or hotfixes, you may be
getting an error regarding the version of the store--if this is not it,
please post the application log errors or pop-up errors you are getting.

When upgrading from 2000 standard to Enterprise edition I
got an error that the site replication service would not
start. The upgrade continued but with the error. All
services started but the mail store would not mount. I
also notice the M drive is now gone.
