SMTP Connector via VPN connection

It has been requested that I configure mail sent from our domain ABC.com to
XYC.com over a VPN connection between the two companies. We are running E2K
and they are running Notes. Is it correct in assuming that I would need a
new SMTP connector and configure it with the IP address of the VPN
connection?
I did not see this question posted previously. Any assistance is
appreciated.
Thanks
