I have a client that has 2 exchange 2000 servers currently connected over a
WAN. The primary site has a security appliance for mail inside the
firewall. We are attempting to switch over to a VPN and have encountered a
problem with the exchange site to site mail flow. The mail security
appliance does know how to handle the mail coming from the remote site over
the vpn. We have worked with the vendor and that feature will not be
supported until the next revision of the software/firmware, which is only in
beta at this time. They do not have an eta.
My questions is this. The mail security device only scans SMTP. Do you
think using the x.400 connector between the exchange sites would work? The
appliance vendor said it should, as the appliance only scans SMTP traffic,
the x.400 stuff should pass right thru it.
I have read up on the x.400 installation, but cannot seem to find case
studies or examples that are on point to my situation.
I dont have the hardware to test this yet, or I would just try it and see if
it works. If the prognosis is promising, I can test it in the lab before
deployment. I guess I just want to know if we think this may work
Thanks in advance
Brian
