You are right the only switches I can see for Outlook 2002 are here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=296192

I guess installing outlook 2003 temporarily to fix this problem isn't an
option?

Have a look at this kb article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320022
It indicates that you should also look at the cleansweep utility first.
