There seems to be some support when searching Technet:
"The Exchange 2000 default offline address list has an Exchange 4.0 and 5.0
compatibility checkbox. When you select this checkbox, Exchange 2000
supports Microsoft Exchange Client 4.0 or Microsoft Outlook (the version
that released with Exchange Server 5.0) connecting to an offline address
book on an Exchange 2000 server. "
But my question remain, are there things that won´t work in the Exchange 4.0
client /Exchange 2000 server scenario?
