We have an exchange server running symantec virus scan corporatethe
edition 8.0. It detected a virus (netsky) in the mailroot queue of
exchsrvr folder. It was able to quarantine some of hte infectedfiles
but some others it stated "access denied" most likely becauseother
computers were using it.
First, never allow ANY Virus scanner to scan the Exchange
folders/stores, follow Microsofts directions or you will have
massive
problems.
Next, Version 8.... That's a little old. Are you talking about their
package deal version 8 or Symantec Corporate Edition for
Workstations
and Servers?

hm...i will exclude the folders from the scan. yes, it is corporate
edition for workstation and servers, does that make a difference?
And also, does that mean the detected virus is false?
Should i run the fix netsky tool from symantec?
http://tinyurl.com/qa3yt
Again, the "virus" is reportedly ind:\exchsrvr\mailroot
For the netsky tool, it says "WARNING: For network administrators. If
you are running MS Exchange 2000 Server, we recommend that you exclude
the M drive from the scan by running the tool from a command line with
the Exclude switch. For more information, read the Microsoft knowledge
base article, XADM: Do Not Back Up or Scan Exchange 2000 Drive M
(Article 298924)."
Does that mean its safe to use it for the d:\exchsrvr folder?
Thank you for your help!
