Re: New users in AD do not show in GAL on some Outlook Clients?

Hi,

Thank you for posting back.

First I want to know whether you have tried the steps in my previous
response. If yes, please let me know the results. Since we need narrow down
whether the issue happens due to OAB synchronization in Outlook Client or
OAB Generate in Exchange Server Side. I want to clarify in cache mode,
outlook clients do not access GAL, it queries OAB that download from
exchange server.

So please log on the problematic mailbox through OWA to determine if the
user was created in Global Address List.

For a new Outlook profile, the latest Address Book should be shown in new
Outlook profile. So please verify whether the issue persists and let me
know the result.

In order to get a more concrete idea as to what the exact problem is and
how to resolve it efficiently, please go through the following steps to
troubleshoot the issue and collect information.

Step 1: If you have not install Exchange Server 2003 SP2, please apply
Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 in the following web link in your
Exchange Server.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/downloads/2003/sp2/dow
nload.mspx

Then please verify whether the issue disappears, if the issue persists,
please continue with next step.

Step 2: Update the recipient policy

In Exchange System Manager, go to Recipients -> Recipient Policies -> Right
click the recipient policy -> Click Apply this policy now.

Then please verify whether the issue disappears, if the issue persists,
please continue with next step.

Step 3: Rebuild both Enterprise and domain RUS.

In Exchange System Manager, go to Recipients -> Recipient Update Services
-> Right-click each item (Enterprise and domain RUS) in the right pane and
select Rebuild. Then, please right-click each time again to select Update
Now.

Then please verify whether the issue disappears, if the issue persists,
please continue with next step.

Step 4: Restart Exchange System Attendant Service.

Click Start menu -> click Administrative Tools -> Click Services -> Restart
Microsoft Exchange System Attendant Service.

Step 5: Reboot the Exchange server.
Please schedule the rebooting at a non-business time. After doing this,
open Exchange System Manager (ESM), navigate to Recipients\Offline Address
Lists\ In the right panel, right-click the default offline address list and
choose ''Rebuild''. Go to the client workstation, click ''Send/Receive''
button. What's the result?
If the issue persists then,

If the problem still occurs, please delete original OAL on the Exchange
server and then recreate one. To do this, in ESM, right-click ''Offline
Address Lists'' and choose ''New''->''Offline Address List''. Input a name
such as ''My Offline address list'', click ''Browse'' button and input the
Exchange server name->Select which Address lists to included in the
OAL->Click ''Next'' button to finish the configuration. After doing this,
go to the client workstation and then try again.

Also please create a new mail-enabled user object in ADUC, then follow up
Step 2 to apply policy and update RUS, and if you still cannot see new SMTP
address,
Increase diagnostics logging level for MSExchangeAL to Maximum.

1). Open "Exchange System Manager".
2). Expend "Servers"-->"[Server name]"
3). Right click "[Server name]", in the "Properties" dialog box, click
"Diagnostics Logging"
4). Locate on "MSExchangeSA", then in the "Categories" panel, select "OAL
Generator". When they are selected, in the "Logging level", click
"Maximum".
5) And set all options in MSExchangeAL to maximum.
5). Try to reproduce the issue.
6). On the Server, "Start"-->"Run"-->"eventvwr.msc". Save the "Application
Log" and send it to me directly: v-chacez@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hope this helps, if you have need more help on this issue, please feel free
to let me know. Have a great weekend.

Best Regards,

Chace Zhang (MSFT)

| So I did the following to one of the users with the Issue.
|
| This user was in Location 3 yesterday, they are now at HQ
| Laptop has rebooted several Times since then.
|
| Closed Outlook
| Removed all of the .OAB files for the Profile
| Added the Following Registry Key:
| [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Cached Mode]
| "DownloadOAB"=dword:00000000
| Restarted Outlook
| Downloaded the GAL
| Closed Outlook
| Opened Outlook
| Waited 5 Minutes
| Started a new Message, clicked To...
| New Users are NOT in the GAL.
|
|
| I added a New Address List to the Default yesterday Afternoon.
| It appears in the DropDown for available Address books to download.
| In the Address Dialog, the New Address List show in the Show Names From:
| List.
| The New users appear in the new Address List.
|
| If I log on as the user to our Terminal Server, They see the Addresses in
| the GAL just fine.
|
| So, what now?
