about Exchange service in Front-End server

Dear all,

I¡¦m using Exchange 2000 to be Back-End and Exchange 2003 to be Front-End.
In Front-End only I need is let user access OWA via IE.

I find out that I can stop all Exchange service in Front-End, but OWA still
can work.

Is it correct? What Exchange service should enable if I only need OWA (no
need POP3 or SMTP authentication service)?

Many thanks for your help!
