Lost in a sea of information (SSL Configuration)

Hi, hopefully someone can help out a slow learner (me) on this. I'm trying
to configure SSL on my Exchange Server in order for users to access OWA
using https, but apparently I'm not doing something right.

I installed the Certificate Services on the server and completed the fields
for the certificate creation. Once that was done, then in the default web
site properties, I put a check on the "Require secure-channel (SSL)" in the
Directory Security tab and I also checked the box "Require 128-bit
encryption".

Next I selected "Allow users to connect without supplying their own
certificate,
click Ignore client certificates" (but I also tried the other combinations
once that one didn't work).

Once I configure the above, I can no longer connect to OWA by trying to
access via https (and http no longer works either).

However, if I remove the certificate from the default website, then I can
access OWA using http.

What am I missing? Is there a dummed-down instruction set on how to
configure SSL (https) on Exchange Server?

Thanks.
