Guesswork, but when you send a mail through exchange it will do a DNS lookup
on the email address. If the domain you are sending to is classed as local
by Exchange (i.e. its in your global address recipient policy) then it will
look for a mailbox with that email attached. Otherwise, it will do a DNS for
the MX record for the domain and forward it there.
So. In your case, either the MX records for the domain name point to the
wrong place, or your Exchange server is configured to accept mail locally
for that domain, but none of the mailboxes have that address attached.
Err... hard to say more than that without seeing it!
