Well, more than likely they're using reverse DNS, which checks the IP first
for a domain name, or they're blocking their subscriber IP subnet.

Can you send to someone at AOL? If you can't then reverse DNS is the issue
and from the sound of it, if that's the case, there's nothing you can do
about it, because you can't call them and ask them to create a PTR entry for
your MX record and IP address.
