Users of the mail server cannot send messages from offsite.
They have connectivity to both the pop3 and smtp ports on
the mail server, and clients are set to authenticate to SMTP.
On the exchange server, the default virtual SMTP server is
set to allow all forms of authentication. Under relay
restrictions, it is set to allow relaying only from inside
the domain, however, the checkbox at the bottom - 'allow
all computers which successfully authenticate to relay
regardless of the settings above' is checked off. There is
no SMTP connector.
Everything I read suggests that I should be able to
authenticate and send mail from offsite. However, it will
not authenicate. I get the 550 5.7.1 unable to relay for
...." error message.
So far any queries on this topic here have resulted in
either NO information, or just plain misinformation (one
guy suggested to uncheck 'anonymous' authentication...
lol). I think this is one of those questions that
separates the men from the boys, because a week of
searching has left me knowing alot more about exchange, but
still SOL on the issue at hand).
