Remove AD objects for failed Exchange Server

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I have a server that has been showing signs of pending failure. Exchange was
misbehaving, AD was mis-behaving as well as other applications on this box.
I moved the mailboxes off this server 8 weeks ago and changed the SMTP
routing and Recipient Address update settings before things got to where it
is now.

I can't remove Exchange, it fails with an error message that means nothing.
It suggests referring to the log file in the temp folder which only shows
the same message the error dialoge box provides. There is nothing on this
server I need and I want to nuke the partition and install W2K3 Enterprise.
Does anybody know what I will need to do to clean up Active Directory?
